Growth & Expansion
In 2021, the idea of establishing a society for agribusiness scholars and scientists in Ghana took shape, driven by a vision to enhance research and innovation. By 2022, a group of key scholars, including Prof. Richard Kwasi Bannor, Dr. Benjamin Sarfo, Prof. James Osei Mensah, and Dr. Alex Neur, convened to assess the feasibility of this initiative. They engaged with academics across various universities, generating significant support for forming the society.
The founding group expanded to include scholars like Ms. Hamida Shiraz and Dr. Stephen Opoku Mensah, who collaborated on the society's objectives and structure. A subcommittee, chaired by Prof. Bannor, drafted the society's statutes, which were finalised after extensive discussions.
The society was officially registered on August 1, 2023. An electoral commission organised the first elections, leading to the selection of the inaugural executive team: Prof. Bannor as President, Prof. Mensah as Vice President, Dr. Sarfo as Secretary, and Dr. Priscilla Agyemang as Treasurer. This team is dedicated to advancing agribusiness education, research, and collaboration in Ghana and beyond.
