The concept of establishing a society dedicated to agribusiness scholars and scientists in Ghana emerged in 2021, fueled by a collective vision for advancing research and innovation in the field. In 2022, this vision began to take shape more concretely when a dedicated group of scholars convened to discuss its feasibility. This group was led by Prof. Richard Kwasi Bannor from the University of Energy and Natural Resources, who was joined by key figures such as Dr. Benjamin Sarfo from Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, Prof. James Osei Mensah of Kwame Nkrumah University of Technology, and Dr. Alex Neur from the University of Cape Coast.

Recognising the importance of a collaborative approach, the group agreed to consult with other agribusiness scholars across various universities to gain broader support for the initiative. Engaging with academics from numerous public and private universities that offered agribusiness programs revealed considerable enthusiasm for the idea of forming a dedicated society. This engagement culminated in the formation of an initial group of founding members, representing diverse institutions, who were tasked with laying the groundwork for society.

In addition to the foundational members already mentioned, the group was enriched by the inclusion of Ms. Hamida Shiraz from the University for Development Studies, Dr. Stephen Opoku Mensah from Kumasi Technical University, and Mr. Stephen Mensah from Cape Coast Technical University. Together, these scholars deliberated extensively on society's objectives, structure, and operational framework.

To formalise the establishment of society, a subcommittee was formed, entrusted with the critical task of drafting the society's statutes, which would serve as the foundational legal document for its registration. This committee was chaired by Prof. Richard Kwasi Bannor, with Dr. Benjamin Sarfo appointed as the secretary and Dr. Alex Neur contributing as a member. After a thorough and iterative review process involving extensive discussions with the founding members, the statutes were finalised and approved.

On August 1st, 2023, the society was formally registered, marking a significant milestone in its journey. To launch the society's activities effectively, an election was organised under the oversight of an appointed electoral commission, composed of Dr. Helena Oppong-Kyeremeh and Dr. Ewurabena Etuah, ensuring a transparent and fair process. The elections resulted in the selection of the inaugural executive leadership: Prof. Richard Kwasi Bannor was elected as President, Prof. James Osei Mensah as Vice President, Dr. Benjamin Sarfo as Secretary, and Dr. Priscilla Agyemang as Treasurer. This newly elected executive team drove the society's mission forward, focusing on enhancing agribusiness education, research, innovation and collaboration within Ghana and beyond.
